1 and 3 could be due to a corrupt network connection. Try deleting your
ISP's connection in Network Connections and creating a new one.

On the other hand a corrupt winsock and #2 are often signs of malware being
resident on the system. Fixing may be more involved: scanning and removing
malware; resetting LSP. The following article is for another situation but
describes the same procedure:

After you run Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta), you have
network-related problems, or you receive an error message

In Windows XP with SP 1, and later installed service pack 2 which has auto
update enabled.
The Norton Antivirus was also working fine and the intenet connection had no
problem

After some windows updates were installed automatically and the computer
restarted the following errors are noted .Kindly do give a solution.

1.An error Symantec Email Proxy comes up and the Antivirus is Auto protect
is disabled, after manually enabling the Auot protect it works.

2. An error Cannot load phone book Error 5 appears.

3.The Internet connection does not work and the error 720 is shown.

4.The Security center says Firewall is disabled. When we manually try to
enable it to through the services, Could not start the Windows
Firewall?Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service on local computer.Error
2.The system cannot find the specified file.

Please help as soon as possible. A detailed mail to solve the problem would
be appreciated. I am a computer techninican trying to solve this at a
customer's place.

Jacob, malware is a possibility but it's not what jumps out at me with your
post.

Use of Norton email scanning is one problematic aspect. This could be
disabled to eliminate it from the picture. Email scanning is redundant so
if this helps, there is no added risk in leaving it disabled.

The other thing that came to my mind was a corrupt connection item in
Network Connections. They can look right and appear to be working the same
as always but the underpinnings are not quite right. Creating a new
connection gives a "fresh" start. Whenever I've run into this it's been
right after installing updates of some kind so it's always something I try.

The important part in the article that I referenced before is the using the
reset command.

enable it to through the services, Could not start the Windows

2.The system cannot find the specified file.
