I am getting the above error when attempting a VPN connection. What does

Error 628 - The connection was terminated by the remote computer before it
could be completed.
If its a VPN connection you need to check the security settings of your
connection.
Right Click on your connectoid -> security tab -> Advanced (Custom)
settings -> check that the encryption and authentication methods are
supported by the server.
It could also be because the server is not able to assign IP to the client.

It may be that the server is not able to generate IP addresses. How do I
check for this? Is there a service that I am not starting that handles the
assignment? The IP addresses for the LAN are assigned at the router, can I
still get the server to assign the IP? The last place I set this up at there
was very little for me to do but set up the RAS software and everything
worked. This leads me to believe that there is some service not started or a
Win 2000 software component that I have not installed.

If the server cannot assign IP address, you can check this by configuring
the RAS server to assign static IP addresses.
Right Click RAS Server - > Properties - > IP tab - > Static Address Pool - >
Add -> (Then give the range of Static addresses)
If still your connection does not go through then there might be some other
problem
