I am using a web server called BadBlue to transfer files
between a friend of mine and I. He was trying to upload
a large file to my PC and after a while he got the error
404 Page could not be found. For small 2-3 MB files
there is no problem. BadBlue has a parameter that you
can set to control the max size of an upload but I have
set that to 800MB.

I sent a message to their board and the admin thinks it
is a limitation with IE6 only being able to handle an
upload of 40 MB.

Does anyone know if there is a limit on how big of a file
you can upload using IE6? Or how to get around this issue?

Thanks.

Can this help. It's from an other post.

When I try to download certain Microsoft XP updates, such as .NET
framework, which are large files, the download stops at 4 MB each time.
I don't know if this is a problem with IE, Microsoft's server, or my ISP
(on a DSL). Is it a temp directory limitation? Is there something I should
tweak in the registry? I have a 40 GB hard drive which is about 1/3 full, so
that isn't the problem..

Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Then on another group someone said to decrease the value for the receive
window (RWin) setting (on a DSL tweaker) to half of what it was, and that
worked immediately. Something about with a too high RWin setting the server
thinks you are disconnected and stops sending the file. Anyway, it worked.

Thanks, but my problem is when someone uploads a file to
me not when I download a file. Thanks for trying though.

If it's your server that's issuing a 404 why not look in its log for clues?
Sounds like either the client is requesting the wrong file or the server is
issuing the wrong message. Perhaps there is a more appropriate
newsgroup to post this in than one for the client if you need help choosing
and interpreting diagnostics from the server side?

Thanks for the tips Robert but... The client (remote
user) was uploading not downloading a file. Small files
1-2 MB seem to test fine. However if the sdame person
tries to upload a large file then he gets the error 404
after the upload appears to hit a limit.

I asked the tech support related to the web server and
they redirected me here and they think it is a limitation
with IE6 on how big an upload can be. So this is why I
am here asking this question.
