I just upgraded from win 98 to win 2000 professional. Whwn
i install my webcam, the following error code
interrupts.... Error 1606 could not access network
location %ALL USERS PROFILE%\Start
Menu\Programs\Administrative tools.

i hv visited the microsoft site & tried different ways
to resolve it. Wanna know what should be typed in ALL
USERS ? Is it my logging on User Name? & How do i find my
user name, a bit confused because my login id is pent2 ,
but when i click on my computer\properties\user profiles,
it says PENT2\pent2.

Please help.

If you go to Start, Run, type in CMD then click OK, then type "set al" at the command prompt, you should see -

C:\>set a
ALLUSERSPROFILE=C:\Documents and Settings\All User

Is that location accessible

"Error 1606. Could Not Access Network Location <Common Administrative
Tools>.All Users\" Error Message When You Install a Program

This is an XP article, but see if it does not apply in your 98->W2K
system as well.

I never recommend upgrading from one OS to another in-place.
"Clean" installation is always preferred here FWIW.
