Well, the short answer is you be certain that your are administrator on the
machine.
If you are on XP Home, I don't know the long answer, except that it may
involve booting in safe mode and logging in as "administrator."
On XP Pro, open Explorer, and right click on the appropriate Program Files
folder, and choose Properties, then the Security tab, then click the
Advanced button.
This is what I see on the Permissions tab:
Allow Administrators Full Control This folder, subfolders and files
Allow SYSTEM Full Control This folder, subfolders and
files
Allow CREATOR OWNER Full Control Subfolders and files only
Allow Users (machinename\Users) Read & Execute This folder, subfolders,
and files
Allow Users (machinename\Users) Special This folder and
subfolders.
The Inherit box is checked. the other one is not.
Special's properties are Create Files/Write Data and Create Folders/Append
data, and that one is inherited from the parent, which in my case is the
root of my D: drive.
Do those who are having this error see anything different?
