ERROR 101

Can you try the following steps and reply back if it takes care of the
problem?

Log on as an administrator
Open up control panel and double-click on add/remove programs.
Select Microsoft AntiSpyware
Select "Change"
On the Microsoft AntiSpyware Maintenance Wizard, click next.
On the next screen (Microsoft AntiSpyware Maintenance Wizard) select Update
Microsoft AntiSpyware and click next.
Select Install
Let the product update.
Click Finish.

I too am getting the 101 error. I have tried the
instructions below. I get the following error message:
Windows Installer service could not be accessed.

I downloaded the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility as
directed by another site and I get the same error message:
"Windows Installer service could not be accessed."

Also, since downloading MS Spyware and Mozilla, I am now
getting the following message when I open Word: "This
document could not be registered. It will not be possible
to create links from other documents to this document." I
cannot run Live Update in Norton Internet Security. Also,
NIS can no longer scan windows messenger. I don't know if
these errors are due to the spyware program since I
downloaded Mozilla the same evening. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

What happens if you go to a command prompt and do Net Start msiserver
<enter>?

Thanks, Bill. Your suggestion worked wonders. After
following it, I tried to repair antispyware using change in
add/remove programs. That didn't work, still got the same
101 error. But I was able to uninstall antispyware. My
problems with norton internet security and ms word cleared
up after that. I think that this was the first and last
beta program I will download. Thanks again for your help.

Interesting. Well, I'm glad that worked, but I would like to know why.

MSISERVER is the name of the executable that constitutes the Windows
Installer service. It's normal "condition" is that it is not running, and
set to manual start--so that it starts when needed.

I was expecting that command might yield an error message telling us why the
Installer service wasn't able to start.

All's well that ends well, I guess, though--glad it worked!-
