Error 101--you won't believe this.

I downloaded and installed MS AS earlier this week, and it
worked fine for about two days. Then, when I would try to
boot the program, I got Error 101. I read in the newsgroup
to go to Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/MS
AS/Change-Remove. Well, it doesn't appear in the
Add/Remove Programs list. I sent Andre an email about
this, and he was kind enough to suggest that I go through
Programs/MS AS/Uninstall MS AS. So, I tried that, and I
got an error saying "This action is only valid for products
that are already installed". What's that all about? I've
got a desktop shortcut, a full listing in the Start Menu, a
folder in Program Files, etc. So, what's up with this?!

I had the same unpleasant experience. What's worse, the
error message tells you to contact
(e-mail address removed) for "immediate" (ha ha)
assistance. After 5 days and two messages, NO reply. The
uninstall does not respond. I tried to manually erase the
program and re-instal, but no luck. I know it's a Beta
version, but that is no excuse for letting the guinea pigs
hang twisting in the wind. Any ideas?

I read kilocharlie's reply to your suggestion, but his
problem appears to be different. I downloaded and
installed the Cleanup Tool, and it opens up just fine. The
problem is that the MS AS doesn't appear anywhere in the
window as an uninstallable program. So, what it looks like
is I have a phantom program that I can see on my computer,
but none of the uninstalling software can locate.

This is interesting, isn't it?

Yeah--thats ugly.

So--if you attempt to reinstall from the original download or a new one,
does it allow you to do so?

If you see stuff on your machine, but it isn't in add or remove programs,
and the Windows Installer cleanup utility doesn't see it, I would hope that
you could just reinstall over it and fix things.

If your ultimate intent were to get rid of it, I think that's still what
you'd need to do--install it, and then uninstall once an install completes
properly.

I downloaded a fresh version, installed it, and was able to
successfully uninstall the program. Thanks for your
help--I think I'll wait until the full version is released.

I don't know how much to blame on the Windows Installer and its
idiosyncrasies and how much is a real bug in the program. At any rate, I
can understand your reluctance to test further. There will be a second beta
build released at some point, but I don't know what information will be
released about the changes between the builds.
