Folks,

Has anyone run into this problem before? After upgrading from the GIANT
version of anti-spyware to Defender, haven't been able to get the scan to
operate. This is the error message I get.

The problem with the error message is that I have plenty of RAM, plenty of
VM: 1GB of physical RAM and 1.6GB of VM on a 1.7GHz Centrino. Plenty of
resources, right? Task manager shows that, even with most of my common apps
loaded, I have more than 500MB of phyiscal RAM uncommitted.

I'm open to suggestion!

Thanks guys.

Mark

Hello Mark,

Just out of interest. Have you clear the cache?

So does the same thing happen when you reboot into Safe Mode to scan?

Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always as a
adinistratºr.

This is the key!
The installation as an admin is not enough.
You needed to login as an admin.

As always, you should make sure that you have got a working system restore
point before you run any cleaning.

D/L and install Ccleaner, install the slim version.

Note, uncheck Yahoos toolbar during install.

Open Ccleaner and press "Windows" "Aplications" and "Run Cleaner" from the
menu choose 'Issues' and then press scan for issues, Repair any fºund.

Run Safety.Live, look for the broom Clean up, also Tune Up..

Can you try restarting in safe mode and scanning?

I've seen this issue posted occasionally, and I'm not sure what is going on.
It is reminiscent of a problem that Microsoft Antispyware had which involved
registry permissions set by malware that prevented the current user from
reading them, and resulted in loops with memory leakage in the app. I would
think that would be fixed in Windows Defender--but that's what this reminds
me of...
