I shedule a full scan each day at 2 a.m. In the morning I get the noted
message a a request to run a quick scan. This always says everything is OK,
but when I check history, I see problems that show "failed" when defender
tried to fix.

Strangely, I have a laptop which is older than this computer and defender
works just fine.

Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times with no luck. Using
verson 1.14.1389.7. Anybody know how I can fix? Thanks in advance.

Michael

Hello dad,

This error will occur if a threat is detected inside of a container such as
a ZIP file, RAR archive, etc.

The "remove" action cannot (in most cases) be applied to an object inside of
such containers, without deleting the entire contªiner.

For now you can check if the ZIP file has anything else inside of it that
you want to keep. If not, just delete the ZIP file yourself and you will have
removed the threªt.

If you really want to keep the ZIP file around but do not want to see this
error - you can disable scanning inside archives. Clear the checkbox for
"Scan inside archives" in the General Settings section under the Tools menu.
Generally, threats inside archives, while good to know about, are not
"active", meaning they can't do anything bad to your system while inside the
ªrchive.

I hope this post is helpful.
Let us know how it works ºut.

Tried disabling "scan inside achives" and ran a full scan. Found 2 adwares
and a spyware and same error message. I tried to highlight each of the 3 and
delete maually and can't seem to do so. Noticed that when I reopened
defender, the "scan inside archives" was checked. Is there some way that I
didn't save this setting properly? Don't see any "save" button when changes
like this are made.

When you make a change to one of those settings, there is a Save button
(save/cancel) at the very bottom of the window that should become
active--you need to hit that save button.

Thanks Engel & Bill. Now working fine. Somewhat embarrassed that I apperently
couldn't see the large "save" icon, but all's well that ends well.

Cheers,

Michael

You may want to revisit that setting at some future point--it's likely that
the behavior will change before final release.

So--every once in awhile, try checking it again and see whether anything has
changed.

Your most welcome, enjoy the file
