I installed Windows defender on my Tablet PC and get error 0x80072ee5 when
trying to update. I thought it may have someting to do with the firewall on
the office network but tried it on my Broadband connection at home with the
same results. I do not get the same problem with Defender on my home PC that
works fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mike

Is the tablet joined to the domain--i.e.there may be group policies in
place? Can you visit Windows Update?

Yes - the tablet is joined to a domain but I don't think there are group
plicies in place, the old version of Microsoft Antispyware worked fine. I can
visit the Windows update site.

The new version updates via Windows Update and Auto Update. In a managed
network, Autoupdate may work from WSUS or SUS servers on the lan, rather
than directly to Microsoft--so the autoupdate function may require
infrastructure on the company network, and being connected to that company
network.

If you are permitted by policies to go to Windows Update, it should offer
updates to Windows Defender.

That was poorly worded. Windows Defender definitions, in a managed
environment, are available via WSUS, but not through SUS.

Thanks, Bill. I think that is the problem. The Windows update does work off
one of our servers on the LAN rather than the microsoft site. I'll speak to
the IT Security Officer about the policies etc.

Many thanks,

MIke

I've got the same error, but I'm not in a managed enviroment. I've even
tried reinstalling the software and after it is reinstalled and I run the
check for updates from within the program I still get the error and it will
not update. I'm running the software on a Windows Media Center pc and
Windows XP Pro laptop and got this error on both.

Any additional help would be great.

Thanks
