When I try to scan, I'm getting 0x80070002, can not find the file specified.
Updating doesn't correct the problem.

Does this call for uninstal/reinstal ?

Ron, the 003 error is one which Microsoft understands and has a fix coded
for. However, I can't predict when that fix will be available--it will be
distributed through the normal update process.

It is seen by anyone whose disk partition is dynamic, rather than basic--you
can see this in disk manager--right click My computer, choose manage, then
click on Disk Management under Storage. Look at the notations under each
disk listed in the lower pane on the right.

I don't have a workaround for this--it will prevent scanning, but it won't
prevent updates or real-time protection.

Bill,

I have been experiencing the same issue since I upgraded to Windows Defender
Beta from the Beta 1 application. I wasn't too worried about the issue as I
was still able to run a scan through the other route, but your commentary
about the issue being related to a dynamic disk partition may be in error.
All three of my hard drives are listed as "basic" when viewed by the means
you indicated below. I have two hard-drives; one partioned into two. But
all have the Type "basic" indicated.

Thank you.

I think I'm mixing two issues in this thread. If you get this error, but
running the scan from the menu works fine--that's a bug, but not the one
relating to dynamic partitions--My fault.

Well, my disk partition is basic. and when I try to run the scan thru the
manual way, I end up with 0x800705b4 with the defender stalling and then
within minutes the screen goes back to the you haven;t scanned your
computerin 3 days...

Have you tried scanning in Safe mode?
