Error 0x08081e

Trying to upgrade from XP Pro to Vista Business. Install fails during
gathering files step with error 0x08081e in the log. I've tried repeatedly to
install - always fails and rolls back to xp.
This is on a 500gb Sata drive, Nforce4 chipset, Opteron 165 cpu, 3 mb
memory. Has anyone run across this?
 
Hello,

It seems that your upgrade from XP pro to business does not work. This error
is a common error with upgrades. Try doing a clean install of Vista Business
edition on a partition, and see if that works.

If this is a common error...then I'd need to reinstall every program I have
(over 100) and that's unacceptable.

Hello,

You can try to defrag your hard drive and see if that helps, but, with a 500
gig hard drive, it will take some time.

Although I had defragged prior to trying the install I'm redoing it....its
at 30% now....I'll post again after my next try....later today.

What defrag will do, is check for bad sectors on your hard drive, and
attempt to fix them. Bad sectors is a factor, than can result in your vista
installation problem.

Well - I think I'm going to give up on Vista and not recommend it to any of
my clients. After two more trys on upgrading it still will not install.
