Hi everyone,

I am going to be leaving my company and want to erase personal information
I've had saved. I also want to erase cookies, web sites I've visited, etc.

I cannot use a disk killer as that would look suspicious and be in violation
of company's computer policy.

So, without super-formatting the drive, what steps can I take to best ensure
all traces of personal data are gone. Any websites offer step by steps
checklists?

PS - there is nothing illegal, I just don't want my personal stuff hanging
out on a company computer.

Thanks in advance!

Deleting data or even formatting is not sufficient. Use Eraser or similar to
overwrite data.

Just delete your personal files, and then make sure that the Recycle Bin is
emptied. After resetting the machine, it will be very difficult to retrieve
what you have erased.

As for cookies, these are very difficult to decipher manualy. But, since
your user name is attached, you can also go in to the cache areas and delete
these as well. Just make sure you do not delete cookies that are required
for any paid subcriptions or important things that require information from
subscribed sites that others are using on the same machine, if this is the
case.

Do you really think that someone is going to go in to the machine and start
poking around at your personal business that you have to hide? Also, I tell
people that when on a work computer that does not belong to them, do not do
anything personal. Anything you do on a company computer, becomes property
of the company. This is the law where I am located.

How about Delete, Empty TrashCan, and then Fill it up with
Lots of Data, like copying a CD or DVD into the Hard drive and fill it
up much as possible, then Delete that, and Defrag HD.
