Equation editor in Powerpoint

After I type an equation in Powerpoint's embedded equation
editor and return to the Powerpoint slide the equation is
returned and deposited in the center of the slide and
generally must be resized and repositioned. The font size
of the returned equation seems to be quite random -
sometimes it is an itty bitty size and sometimes it is
huge. I always have to resize it using the Format->Object
menu. So (1) why is the size of the returned equation
changing all the time? and, more importantly, (2) is there
any way I can fix the size of the equation that the
equation editor returns? Thank you.

I'm not sure I can answer all of your question because I use equation editor's
big brother Math Type (which if you do a lot of equations is worth the money
for the extra convenience) but I do notice that the equation from MT is the
size set in math type unless I am editing an equation already inserted. Then
it comes back the size I make the equation.
As far as resizing the equation you ought to get resize handles on it and be
able to drag it out to the size you want just like any other inserted graphic.
Use a corner to maintain aspect ratio.

In MT you can set the sizes of type that you want the editor to return -- not
sure EE allows this but it may. Since I use MT for both Powerpoint and Word I
leave it at the size for Word and resize in PPT but I have had it come out at
PPT appropriate sizes in the past. There is a menu called Size and the last
thing on the menu is "Define" where you can set the sizes.

Hope this helped, at least a little --

Be aware that when you insert any object into PowerPoint (graphic,
equation, chart, etc.), it will either insert into the middle of the
slide or in the upper left-hand corner (depending on the version of
PowerPoint). We have a tutorial on our web site about using MathType
with PowerPoint, but it may be useful for Equation Editor users as
well. It's at <http://www.dessci.com/en/support/tutorials/mt_ppt/tutorial.htm>.

Regarding the sizes, be aware that when you're in Equation Editor, the
menus at the top of the window aren't PowerPoint menus any more --
they're Equation Editor menus. To change the size, go to Size |
Define, and go from there. This is explained in the Equation Editor
Help file.
