Epson V700 - time to replace lamp?

Should the lamp on an Epson V700 be replaced regularly? I.e. do they
wear out and, if so, do they wear out from being used a lot or simply
from age, or both?

I have had my V700 for a couple of years now and I have done quite a
few concentrated bouts of scanning (like hundreds of B&W negatives and
now lots of slides). Should I be considering replacing the bulb or is
it OK to keep using it until it actually fails? Do they 'fail' or do
they just detriorate slowly?

The lamp in that scanner is a White cold cathode flourescent lamp.
They don't usually fade, If they quit, it is often the driver board.

Explaination about Cold Cathode lamps. This article is about Laptop
computer, but it is the same lamp used in modern scanners, that are not LED.

Replacement is probably a factory only job.

So use the scanner until you actually have a problem or the lamp quits.

Hp uses lamps that are not the standard size so you have to let Hp replace
them. They will not sell you the lamps. I do not know id Epson pulls the
same shit.

Just what I needed to know, thanks, do nothing until it's obviously
broken! :-)
