How do they compare with the 4990 with respect to sharpness
and dynamic range and how do they compare to each other?
What's this "Micro Step DriveT technology" in the v750, and
does it work?
Thanks.

'MicroStep' technology has been a feature of Epson for some years. The
number of CCD's give true optical resolution, but, simplistically put, the
motor moves the carriage in minute steps and reads as such (this would be
true lpp). This is often used to 'increase' the resolution. That's my very
basic undertanding of it. SO the stated ppi can be xxx for witdth, with x
llp. Eg, 3200 ppi x distance of step x length of image.
The two 700's have similar 'engines' and reviews confirm both have better
image quality then the 4990, though whether the extra quality is worth the
extra price may be debatable. The main dif of the 750 is that it has an
aniti-reflective coating, to reduce glare, and offers a 'fluid' mount
system to increase sharpness by having the film perfectly flat and the fluid
aids in filling deep scratches. This scanner has been compared favourably to
dedicated film scanners and even to professional drum ones. It is the only
available 'consumer' scanner to offer a fluid mount system.
