I got a new EPSON Stylus Photo 960 - it is remarkable!
Can it be connected to an ethernet print server so I can share it
between my desktop and my laptop PCs (Win2k)?
=wg=

I guess that's true, but doesn't that mean I have to have the PC that's
hooked to the printer turned on all the time?

[top-posting, nontrimming fixed--please don't do that]

Yes, in a two-computer-only network, the computer to which the printer
is physically attached must be up and running. That computer is the
print server.

A standalone print server will eliminate that inconvenience. Some hubs,
switches, and cable routers have print servers built into them, and
that's generally the cheapest way to get one.

My real question is, does the EPSON Stylus Photo 960 work with a
standalone print server?!?

You don't need a print server if both desktop and laptop are
networked. I
think you just need to set it's properties as "shared" on the one
it's
connected to then go to the other PC and "add network printer".

I got my own answer from Epson:
-----------------------
Thank you for taking the time to contact Epson. It is my pleasure to
respond to your inquiry.

At this time none of the networking options for other Epson printers are
officially supported for the SP960.

It can be networked only in a print sharing arrangement-- for example,
connected to one PC and shared over a PC network. It cannot be shared
across platforms (PC to Mac or vice versa.)

Should you require further assistance with this issue, please use the
"Reply With History" option, including your previous e-mail with your new
request. If you have a different technical support issue, please submit
another E-form via our website (http://www.epson.com
<http://www.epson.com/>), and we will respond
in a timely manner. Thank you again for contacting Epson.

That's strange since EPSON says they don't support those options!
