Epson Stylus Color 880 cover problem

I can no longer replace the cartridges on my Espon Stylus Color 880
printer.

It does not seem to detect any longer that the cover is being opened, so
it does not move the head with the cartridges out in the open so I can
reach them. Not even after also holding down the ink button for the
indicated 3 seconds: it just does the head cleaning then like when the
cover is closed.

Anyone know how to fix this? Can anyone tell how this printer does the
open/close cover detection?

Try holding down the PAPER FEED button
for 5 seconds.

Might be a case of RTFM as the Epson manual indicates that the single drip
insignia button (for Black) should be held down for MORE than 3 seconds
which causes the head to position itself for changing the black cartridge.
Hold both the single drip and triple drip signed buttons for the same period
and the colour change is triggered when you press and hold the triple drip
button again.
It works on all Epson's so it should on yours.

The moving of the cartridges was never triggered by lifting the lid. Hold
down the button until you hear it start to move otherwise all you will get
is a cleaning cycle.

If you are looking at a English Language manual, look at the manual
entitled Printer Basics, Epson Stylus Color 880/880i/8(cube).

Turn to page 26 entitled "Replacing an Outdated Ink Cartridge" and it
shows you how to replace a cartridge before the printer indicates the
ink is low (flashing LED).

I have a european multilingual version of the printed manual. It only
goes to page 24. I browsed through it entirely and it does not explain
the procedure.

I did however find the full manual on one of the install CDs; I forgot
it existed. It does describe the procedure ... but also not on page 26 ;-)

I appreciate your effort though!
