I would appreciate ANY advice on installing my old Epson Stylus C82
printer to my new laptop without the software. My HP recognizes the
new hardware, but then will not install the printer automatically. If
I connect an HP printer, it works, but not the Epson. Is there any way
to install this without the CD? Thanks!

If Windows doesn't have the driver built in (I'm surprised it doesn't,
considering the age of the printer), then it's not really going to
work without the CD. You can't just 'tell it there's a printer' and
have it work. (there are generic printer drivers out there, but
generally will only print text in Courier Old font). Your other
alternative (better alternative, seeing as how that CD most likely
doesn't even /have/ XP drivers) is to go to Epson's website and
download the latest updated drivers for that printer.

If that link doesn't work, it's on the website (North America ->
Drivers & Support) -> Printers -> Inkjet -> C82 -> Drivers -> etc.

Does this printer even have a USB connector or only parallel? I
/think/ it does, looking at the website, but the brochure is too big
for me to download right now. If it only has a parallel connector,
you'd need an adapter for that, as well.
