Ran out of black ink.
Installed new cartridge.
Afterwards black will not print.
Other colors do print.
Tried printer test with unit disconnected from computer and it still
fails on black.
Any suggestions.
Thanks,
Herb

Take the old cartridge - fill it with either Windex (UK Windolene) which is
a window cleaning fluid. Some shower degreasers do just as well. They all
contain ammonia which disperses dried or congealed ink. The print some windy
pages to clean the head from within. A 10:1 mix of household ammonia with
distilled water where possible works as well as a solvent for dye and
pigmented inks. You may need obviously to reset the feared Epson chip if it
states empty.

Make sure the cartridge has a chip on it, and the contacts are clean.

Make sure the cartridge is fully inserted.

Remove the cartridge and shake it well to mix the ink.

While it is removed, with a cotton swab saturated in ammoniated window
cleaner, swab the ink nipple in the printer carriage area (the ink
nipple is the projection that sticks up and breaks the seal of a new
cartridge, and it is also how the ink is transferred from the cartridge
to the print head, sometimes the filter on it gets clogged with residue
or dried ink.

Then, with an eyedropper place a few drops of ammoniated window cleaner
into the ink outlet on the cartridge and a drop or two on the ink nipple
(the projection in the printer that inserts into the cartridge and
breaks the seal) and then try running a couple of cleaning cycles.

If this doesn't work email me for a cleaning manual (no fee).

Many thanks to Art and Tony.
Printer now works properly.
I'll save the instructions.

Great. I'm still using the C80 for invoices and waterproof :-)delivery
notes, and its been the single best printer over some 3 years we've ever
owned.

I had the same problem with my C80 the ink monster, and I solved it by
buying a new Canon I560 printer for $99.95 and my old C80 is out of service
.....

Don

That's one solution, but it requires purchasing a new printer. Most of
the time this problem can be resolved for a few cents of cleaner and a
bit of time.

Also, your Canon doesn't have pigmented waterproof inks, which the Epson
does.
