the heads move as if it was printing, but blank pages spew out. color or
b/w, both cartridges full. cleaned heads, does not help. Actually, I havent
used the printer in a while, and it printed a little at first, but smudged,
so i ran the clean heads utitlity, and that is when the problems started.
does anyone know a solution?
thanks

The solution is called Windolene (Windex USA) which is a common window
cleaner with a mild ammonia content. As the 740 is unchipped you could try
filling a spare cartridge with that or a mild ammonia solution and print a
few pages. As the ink fades you know the solvent is getting through. That is
often enough and will have primed the system. A few drops on the docking
sponge often accomplishes the same.
If it jerks around and spews pages , cleaning the transit chrome head bar
may help as does WD40 or a silica fine quality grease.

WD40 is NOT a lubricant and should never be used as such. It may make the
print carriage glide more smoothly initially but, in the long run, its use
will probably cause major problems.
