Epson Status Monitor and HP1200 series laserjet

Using Windows XP Professional and two printers; Epson Photo1290 and an HP
1200 laserject. If I install the Epson status monitor and the HP is switched
off the status monitor works OK. Once the HP is active however I have two
(I assume) related problems.

1. Status monitor ceases to function - it runs but cannot read the 1290
printer and
2. A page with a couple of characters is printed on the HP after a print has
been completed on the Epson.

I have been diligent in searching Google and both the HP and Epson websites
but cannot find a solution.

Does anyone know the answer? Obviously I would like to use the status
monitor if possible...

I do not know how these are connected, but WinXP cannot support two
connected USB printers simultaneously, and cannot support two TWAIN
devices (camera, scanner) simultaneously, either.

But
http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/stepone/story/0,24330,3399017,00.html
says "Just plug them both in and go."

and from http://www.bestcomputerbuilders.com/default.asp?jump=faq
"If one or both of the printers are USB compatible, you can use the USB
connection to run both printers."

and from
http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.com/testdrive/article.php/998801
"Today's USB ports make linking two printers to one PC much easier than
yesterday's manual switch boxes."

So I don't think "Q" has the right answer. I hope somebody does, because
I have the same problem with my Epson C80.

I read the information from 'Q' and changed the Epson back to a parallel
cable on LPT1 (having removed and re-installed the Epson drivers) and it
appears that all is working well. so my thanks go to him/her for the
comments made.

However, I was surprised by the suggestion that Windows XP cannot handle two
USB connected printers and will keep checking out of general interest.

The problem with simultaneous USB printers and simultaneous TWAIN
devices is not well publicisized by Microsoft. You can verify my
statement, though, by either reviewing posts on the MS news server
msnews.microsoft.com groups microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax and
microsoft.public.windowsxp.photos. In addition, for parallel port
devices, WinXP does not support piggybacking multiple devices (i.e., ECP
and EPP protocols are not fully supported).

Q

I didn't know this either. Does this rule also applies for Windows 98?
Currently there is an Espon 785 printer USB driver, and I am trying to
add a HP LaserJet 2000d with its USB driver as well. They are not hooked
up together. Epson is at home, HP is at office. I know parallel port will
work since that is what I did.

Thank you in advance.

I'm sure that you and many others are not having the problem that the OP
and I are having. Perhaps you can help us isolate the problem:
Are either of your printers an Epson or HP1200 printer?
Do you use the Epson Status Monitor?
Thanks for your help
