i have a flatbed epson scanner,
i read somewhere that if you connect with a resistor two pin of the
connector for the transparent unit, you can turn off the light and use
the scanner with transparent negative. (i need to scan old glass
negative,more bigger than 35mm film).
where i can find some reference?

thanks

Hi...

Wouldn't it be easier (and safer) to just unplug the lid
connector?

if you unplug the connector the scanner say that there is no
transparent unit ;)
the resistor do this.

Hi...

Oops, sorry about that... didn't think the scanner was that
smart :)

How about leaving it plugged in then, and just lifting the lid
off and setting it upside down on the desk behind the scanner?

Or perhaps putting the shield thing in, and leaving it stand
straight up?

Take care.

I just tried running the scanner with the shield in place but set to
film. It goes through the motions then announces no image has been
located, but of course, as there isn't a light source when the shield
is on and you are using the film setting, it expects the light to come
from the lid and shuts off the main scanner light.

Hi Paul...

Good, at least it means the scanner is willing to try :)

The OP's problem is that he wanted to scan 8x10(ish) transparencies,
but the lid light is smaller, so he's wanting to use an auxiliary
light source, with the lid open or removed.

Perhaps it will work, but I wonder if the scanner itself will still
make the maximum 4 x 9 anyways, and he may still have to scan in two or
more steps and do the old crop and paste stuff. :)

Take care.

sounds too much like hard work Ken :O) The lid light is certainly way
too small. Anyway, I lifted the lid and tried scanning film setting
with it up and still plugged in, with the shield still in place. It
does go through the motion so I would think it would be possible to
use an external light source.

I maybe wrong here but isn't the lid just the light for transparency
scanning, With a glass neg you don't need the presure of the top so
just get the top out of the way and use a desk lamp with relatively
even illumination, or a light weight light box. If you have a lot of
these you may want to lookinto a V700, or an Epson Expression that can
scan 8x10. A little while ago a UMAX Powerlook 1100 went for a couple
of hundred $ on ebay They also have an 8.5x11 transparency top.
One problem you might find is if you have a small transparency unit
will the unit scan an
8x10 in transparency mode?
