Having had a scanner for a year, then being without one for several years, I
now have an Epson Perfection 1670 Color scanner. Amongst the included
software is Epson Scan 1.20E.
Using Wayne Fulton's Scantips site, and some old personal e-mail exchanges
with him, I used this strategy when scanning magazine pictures, either: (a)
applying a descreening filter, or (b) scanning, blurring, resampling then
applying a USM.
Epson Scan has three Modes: Full Auto, Home, or Professional. In Full Auto,
descreening etc. happens automatically, but if you don't like the end result
all adjustment has to be post-scan. In Home, there is a Descreening Filter
option, and in Professional there is Histogram Adjustment.
My problem is there is no Histogram Adjustment when there is a Descreening
Filter option, and there is no Descreening Filter option when there is a
Histogram Adjustment.
I scanned a picture today that was too dark, and I needed to adjust the
Histogram, but in order to obviate the need to go through (b) above, it
would have been nice to have the Descreening option.
I don't want to do the Histogram Adjustment post-scan (and I'm not sure if
ArcSoft PhotoImpression 4's Tone option, which has Highlight/Midtones/Shadow
adjustments, is even the equivalent of the Histogram anyway).
I look forward to any constructive comments regarding this. And thank you in
advance.
