First of all, I can't figure out why my messages keep dissappearing from
the forum. Is there someone administering this board, and are they
deleting messages? Anyways, I will repost my reply.
I also just bought the RX500 and had problems figuring out the slide
scanner. I'm not sure where you are stuck in this process. You should
be using the 'smart panel' to set up for slides. I will give you some
of my settings for doing a scan of a slide and printing it as an 8 X 10
picture on the Epson (you can also scan the slide to a file). In the
Smart Panel, choose Scan & Save option. I chose to create a JPG file
type. I set the quality to 'high'. I also chose 'Scan with Options' to
have more control of the settings. I again chose 'Professional'
option to again have more control. Select 'Positive Film'. I chose 720
DPI
as the scan can't do much better than that. Also, 48 bit color for the
best results. Epson help people advised me to select 'ICM' for the best
color rendition and my trials backed them up. The rest of the controls
are
your choice, like size of print and borderless print, etc. The manual
explains how to physically attach the slide holder, but I had to
experiment
with the slide placement until I got the orientation right. I chose
thumbnails,
which allowed a preview scan of several slides, and then selected the
slide I
wanted for the final detailed scan. There is also some online help in
the Smart Panel (use the '?'). I did not do anything fancy with the
colors, but my goal was to get the truest rendition of the slide. There
are
settings to play with to modify the original scan, but I didn't try
them.
Admittedly, Epson could have done a better job of explaining all this
in their manuals. Hope this at least gets you going. Although it's a
long distance call, you can always contact Epson Help (562) 276-7245,
and
it's free assistance for your first year of ownership. Some of this is
just trial and error, so you may want to test with small format prints
first.
