just aquired RX500, having trouble understanding how to scan 35mm
slides which is one of reasons i bought the 500. anyone have an rx500
that can help?

I do not own a RX500.

I suggest that you read the manual.

The principal of scanning slides is, put the slides in the slide holder,
place the slide holder on the scanning glass under the light in the lid,
make sure the transparency light is un-covered in the lid. Select Color
Positive or Slide in the Epson scanner driver and make the scan.

I did read the manual, but still missing the point i guess. I put the
slides in the holder supplied, uncover the light source. What i get is
a scan of the holder with the slides in it, slides quite small, actual
size. I expected to get a blown up slide?

What should I expect to see following your instructions?

When scanning transparent material you have to measure transmitted
light, use the overhead light source. This is a setting in the driver.
It's all in the manual.
