Trying to chose the "best" printer. By "best" I mean which
does the best quality pictures......with half an eye on which is
cheapest to run. Speed doesn't matter.

Any thoughts?

TIA, Alan.

I've just ordered a R210. From what I can discover, it's a 310 without
all the crap I don't want/won't use. (I googled it to death this arvo.)

Here's a couple of bits of info from a trusted source (pro photographer)
on a camera list.
I sold my Epson 2200 and ImagePrint RIP in favor of a multi-printer
solution:

The Epson R300 is by far the best printer for up to 8.5x11 at under
$180. The Canon i9100 produces far larger gamut prints than the 2200
and has approximately 95% of the gamut of the R300. If Canon inks
are used with the Canon Pro-Photo paper - longevity exceeds 28 years,
same with the R300 and Epson Premium Papers. While it isn't quite as
good as the longevity of the 2200 it is more than 3 times the
longevity of Type R or Type C wet darkroom prints and has a far
greater gamut and quite a bit more punch than prints off the 2200. I
personally think that Qimage is three times the software at 1/12 the
cost of ImagePrint.

The R300 is the thrifiest printer that I have owned to date. I
roughly calculated the ink costs of about $.85 per full bleed 8.5x11
based on Atlex.com pricing - variety of subjects. Like most printers
it is hardest on the lighter colors but extremely thrifty on black.

(That's US$ in that costing.)

TIA, Alan.I would definitely vote for the i965. The output of a picture I tried on a R300
wasn’t as good as my old Canon S900. In any event, it would be a much closer
contest if you compared the i965 with the R800, keeping in mind, however, that
the retail on the R800 is twice that of the i960 (I assume the i965 wouldn’t
be much more, haven’t seen them in the US).

As I understand it, the i960 (and I assume the i965) has 3012 nozzles dropping
2 picoliter drops while the R300 has 540 nozzles dropping 3 picoliter drops.
You mentioned that speed wasn’t a problem but, for your information, my S900
prints a 9X10 twice as fast as the R300 and the i965 should be somewhat faster.

Yes but a Epson print head lasts for ever, not like the 18 months for the
Canon..
