Epson R260 ink fiasco!!!

I just hung up on the Epson guy at techsupport. That was after two
weeks of unresponsive generic emails between me and the same
pseudohelp desk.

Here's the situation. Over the last 45 days, I've gone through 4
Epson printers. The first was the R580 (I might have the number
wrong) and the last 3 were R260's. With each one - twice within 24
hours out-of-box - their new super-snooper driver/chip announced to me
that an ink cartridge I had wasn't genuine and refused to operate - at
any level. The first time, I went to the store and bought a
replacement (genuine Epson) cartridge - but it still wasn't
recognized. I'm in the middle of a trip from west to east coast and
needed to have this. VERY FRUSTRATING!! I've bought these from 3
different (major) outlets, used them on two different machines, and
used them with both XP and Vista. I've tried the drivers included on
the CD as well as downloading the 'latest' from their website. Each
time - with each machine - I get the same problem.

I can't see this as anything other than a firmware/driver issue with
the Epson printers... unless someone here can educate me.

I need this printer to print on CD's. I actually went out and bought
an HP model that will print on them, but it's a way sadder interface.

Can anyone shed some light one this???

Sorry to hear about the problems you are facing currently. Epson did
make some changes in ether chip design in the last few months, and it is
possible you are hitting old stock of the cartridges, and they are being
rejected. Shouldn't be happening, but possible.

Make sure the chip surface is clean when you install it. You could also
have encountered some counterfeit cartridges, there are many running around.

Otherwise, can't suggest anything, once or even twice, odd coincidence,
more than that, something is going on either with computer (software),
printer or cartridges (or all three)
