The Ink Monitoring program should come with the CD comes with the printer,
or you can download directly from Epson web page.
And BLACK has nothing to do with Windows 7 or any OS nor any type of
computer (PC pr MAC etc.)
If you want to print BLACK only, then you should buy the Refillable Ink
Cartridges and BLACK only inks (6 colors from 100% pure BLACK to level of
greyscale). And the printer will use all 6 black colors.
*If* you don't want to print any greyscale, then you can fill all 6
cartridges with 100% pure BLACK then you should have the BLACKEST image
block you have ever seen (more like Clip Art)
Thanks for the thoughtful response, Joel,
The problem is that there are no Epson drivers for the R200/Win7 OS. And no
there is no option for a W7 compatible application from Epson or MS. The
web site leads one to that presumption as does Epson's over the pond
support. I only found that fact out after being on the phone with an Epson
CS support troop that did not comprehend or articulate English. My
salvation was my neighbor's grandson was a) a techie b) visiting my grand
kids and offered to help and c) bi-lingual English/and whatever native
language Epson's over the pond support spoke.)
The stock default driver that is supplied with W7 is crippled. I don't know
if this is intentional or a by product of the way MS provides drivers.
WRT "the Printer Ink Monitor software which is a *separated* program need to
be installed and running for it to work." This is why I posted the query as
I hoped that someone here knew of an alternative application I could use or
if not an application then a simple work around.
An aside the Mac driver (don't know if it's Epson or Apple provided) does
allow me to do what I want/need to do. That's a solution but one that is a
bit too complicated for ease of use.
By way of explanation. We run a design studio and for years we've
purchased, in lots, cheap printers. When one dies we toss it and take
another out of storage. We have both R200 and R220 that we use with
aftermarket ink that have served us well for test runs. We make final
submission prints using a professional (read expensive) printer.
