They clog mainly as the result of not being used very often. My Photo 1280
clogs every now and then, but I print text pages rather frequently. I print
phots much much less. It seems more apt to clog when the cartridge is
getting down rather low.
On the other hand, my old Photo 700 seldom clogged.

Sounds like you need Art Entlich's Epson cleaning manual, which he'll send
you free of charge if you email him at: (e-mail address removed)

As I've just commented in another message, it's a good idea to keep the
printer in a dust-free atmosphere, away from direct sunlight and heat
sources (such as radiators) and to try to keep the relative humidity at
around 45%. Most homes have very low-humidity levels* and this can cause
printer ink to dry up quite quickly. Try leaving an open pan/tray of water
close to the printer to prevent future clogs.

*I once heard an antique furniture expert say that in most
centrally-heated homes the humidity is lower than in the Sahara dessert.
Not good for furniture or inkjet printers!

Jon... just for future reference... Art does request that you DON'T
quote his email address in readily parseable form to avoid spam...

Drop Art (Arthue Enetlich) an Email request his cleaning instructions
whicjh he will send you free of charge

Drop him a line with the model to -

That's an old address that is no longer valid.

I can be reached at:

e-printerhelp(at)mvps(dot)org

(at) = @
(dot) = .

I am trying to keep the spam down by using the "hidden" form these days.
The spam has become quite a problem.

Not worth getting into a fight over ;-)

Then I'd change the address in your newsgroups client. Not much use using
the 'hidden' form when the header contains the address in 'clear'! Spam
scanners read the whole message, not just the body text.

Sorry for the inadvertent blunder, though.

Jon.

Eep... well I guess even he forgets...

It's in the header of all of his posts and gets picked up when someone
comments to one of his messages. Just as my obfuscated one was when your
reader inserted: "On Wed, 30 Nov 2005 15:59 +0000 (GMT Standard Time),
(e-mail address removed) (Jon O'Brien) wrote:" in your post.

Can't see what difference Art addx makes the way he puts it, it onl
needs to be read, anyone who could add two and two up could easil
work it ou

The only thing is it ain't easily 'cut and pasted'

Yep... and that means that it would require someone to actually spend
the time to read and transpose it.

Given that most spammer lists are created using automated spidering
scripts... Scratch that, 99.999999999% of lists are created this
way... it's less likely he'll get it added to a list.

Thanks for that information. I had been told many people using certain
readers no longer got the header address, which is why I provide it in
the body.

But you obviously make a good point. It's a bit of a Catch 22, because
I want the email to be there for those who need it without it becoming
too difficult or convoluted.

Not to worry about "the blunder", as you stated, I probably regularly do
it myself!

Does anyone know how to reset the chip in cartriges that belongs to
this printer? Do I have to do that before, or after refilling cartrige?
What is the method?
Thanks

Peter

OK, how about telling us which printer ;-) (as in which model)?

You reset the cartridge AFTER you refill, if you are going to refill.
However, if you just intend to empty the remaining ink in the cartridge
then you can reset it before refilling and reinstall it and use up the
ink, but the printer will not stop to warn you it has run out of ink
when it does.

There are two ways to reset cartridges, one is internal to the printer,
using the Russian Utility, (I assume they provide instructions when you
download it), or you buy a chip resetter for that cartridge type often
from ebay, or another source for a few bucks. They use a battery to
provide the energy to do the reset.

Art

Do I have to do that before, or after refilling cartrige?

Doesn't matter, really, if you are useing and external resetter. The chip
doesn't internally sense anything in the cart.
