Hi,

As I am unable to view photo prints from either of these printers locally, I
was wondering if anyone has compared these two printers and/or can make a
purchase recommendation between them?

I am mainly interested in printing sharp, nicely detailed, true color photos
on matte paper. Secondly I am interested in cost savings regarding ink and
paper. Thirdly speed of printing and quality. I can research the last two
items on my own, but not the photo quality.

Cnet prefers the Epson, Steve's digicams prefers the Canon. Anyone else
wanna weigh in?

Thanks.

Can't tell you which printer to choose, but I can state that the Canon
S800 (which uses the same BCI-6 inks as i950) does a terrific job on
Epson "Matte Paper - Heavyweight". I use the "High Resolution Paper"
setting in the driver...

I have quite a few prints displayed on my desk at work. I've found
that prints on the Epson paper show no fade after 18 months, better
than Canon Photo Pro paper in the same environment. I have
mounted/framed prints at home, and I prefer the Canon paper there.
But at work, I like the fact that people's fingerprints don't show.
And the Epson paper is a LOT cheaper.

I'd assume the i950 would produce similar results, since it is
basically the follow on model to the S8x0 line.

Canon i950. Absolutely.

Inexpensive (as far as Inkjets go) to run, great prints, and no clogged
heads. It won't get pissed at you if you leave it turned off for a week or
two.

I have both, the 960 and i950 printers for two month now, and I can
tell you the epson 960 prints just blow away any photo printer out
there, and yes even the i950 too. The 960 doesn't have the speed of
the i950 but when it comes professional quality looking photo
printing, you can't beat the epson!
