Hi!
Both these machines worked fine on my old pc which also ran win xp home, but
upon installation on this pc neither have functioned correctly, despite both
being supposidly win xp compatable. When the pc has been switched off or
re-started, to used the printer again i have to pull out the plug, switch the
printer back on and then it's fine again! The drivers are all signed so i'm
not sure what the problem is. The scanner is a drama in itself, if i install
the software i can use the scanner easily through windows, but if i try to
use the epson software which i'd prefer, i then get an error message saying
not enough memory, please shut down some other programs and try again, yet i
will have nothing else running, and checking the stress from background
processes on my processor and system, barely anything is being used so the
scanner shouldn't have a problem. Sometimes the pc starts up and asks for the
hardware to be installed again which is odd. I've downloaded epson latest
drivers, but they're not xp signed, i tried them anyway and still have the
same problem, so got rid of them. Any help VERY gratefully received!

It may be that the USB system has a driver problem. This may be support chip
dependent.
Have you looked for BIOS upgrades or chipset support driver updates?
How much RAM memory is installed? How much free space on the Hard drive?

You did not give any details concerning the PC with the problem, so any
advice is going to be general.

Usb driver all say they're ok and xp compliant. More than enough hard drive
space or memory to work in, i've only used about 5%, ram size is: 960 MB same
as my last pc which worked fine with them both. The bios & chipset updates
you mention are configured to update themselves automatically. I'm confused!
Thanks

If you can tell us what chipset is used, it may help!

The other thing I can think of is a registry that has some corruption. This
can cause the rerecognize the printer driver install bit.

Hi!
Not sure is when you say chipset, you mean whether it's Pentium 4 (which it
is) or the bios, so i've gathered some of the systems info and pasted what i
think could be relevent:
GenuineIntel Family 15 Model 3 3.0 GHz Stepping 3 (2 CPUs)
A M I - 3000402 BIOS Date: 03/02/04 10:24:21 Ver: 08.00.09 BIOS Date:
03/02/04

If this isn't correct let me know and i'll go digging, i should really know
this stuff and normally i would and keep it handy, but i've not long had it
and problems like this have been delaying me.
Many Thanks

Try some old favorites:
How large is your Temp file (Documents and Settings/%User_name%/Local
Settings/Temp)? Try clearing it out.
If you have partitioned your HD how much space is left on the install
partition? It should be at least 10%.
What are you virtual memory settings and where have you placed the Swap
file?

Hi.
I've cleared up the temp folder and still the software won't start, or i get
the message not enough allocated memory. My hard drive isn't partitioned. Not
sure quite what you mean by virtual memory, do you mean amount of memory i
allot to certain programs, i've never messed with this so wouldn't know where
to find it? I was wondering if it was down to the power supply alloted to the
usb hub, it differs from port to port, apart from this i have no idea!
