Hi all,

has anyone got an Epson Perfection 2580/2480 got to work under Linux
using vuescan? The supported scanner list says, it's supported and it's
recognized by vuescan, but doesn't work at all.

The scanner works flawlessly under Windows, using the original software
as well as vuescan 8.0.18. Using it just as USB 1.1 device under Linux
doesn't help either and as my old scanner (Canon LiDE 30) work well with
vuescan, I don't expect it to be a OS problem (and as vuescan does
recognize it).

(I already send bug reports for vuescan 8.0.17 as well as 8.0.18.)

Thanks,
Carsten

I found a kind of solution for myself.

After looking at the latest sane snapshot and the snapscan backend
supporting the Epson Perfection 2480/2580 basically, I saw, that the
firmware needs to be loaded to the scanner!

So if I let sane/sane-snapscan load the firmware to the scanner, vuescan
works fine!

To Ed: How do you do it with the 1670? As I understand the sane-snapscan
documentation, this scaner (and quite a few others) need the firmware
to be loaded to the scanner after switching it on. On Windows I suppose
this is done automatically by the driver of the scanner (which I suppose
every user will install -- or are they mandatory on Windows to use
vuescan?).

Actually I don't need sane on my system because I use vuescan only, so
it would be nice, if vuescan could load the firmware to the scanner...

Cheers,
Carsten

OK another remark. I just scanned the vuescan release notes quickly.
There seems to be just *one* scanner with a firmware upload: the Espon
Perfection 3170 and you need to have installed the epkowa driver for
that (it's not clear, whether a full sane install is needed, though).
