I have an Epson stylus c66. Last time I got a message saying something
like "The internal parts of the printer are worn out. They need
repairing". However it still works fine.
Is there a way to hack or crack it somehow?
Thanks
I think the message may be "Parts inside your printer are at the end of their
service life".
If this is so then the waste ink counter (protection counter) has reached it's
maximum value.
Usually when this happens the printer will no longer print, it is unusual for
the message to be diplayed and for the printer to work correctly. However the
message is saying that the waste ink pad should be replaced and the protection
counter should be reset.
In practice it is my experience that you can reset the protection counter once,
and once only, the next time the problem occurs you will need to replace the
waste ink pad.
The easiest way to reset the counter is to use the free utility available from
http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml , your model is supported. Some Epson
printers permit the reset to be made using the control panel buttons but I do
not believe that this one does.
Try the utility and select the "Show current value" it will tell you if you
have exceeded the maximum or not, if you have then try the reset. Don't confuse
the protection counter reset with the Ink Level resets that are also available.
When you load the utility, exit it and look for the Icon in the systray and
right click, select Protection counter.
