Epson margin problem in printing

I have a 8x10 photo I want to print. However Epson wants to margin a
offset by default. I can select "center" in the driver however that
edits off a portion of the image if I select center on 8 1/2x11 sheet. I
want to center the entire 8x10 on a 8.5x11 sheet without the image
getting cropped at the edge can anyone advise how to overcome this
problem? I use PS CS 8 to print from but can't find anyway to center
without losing some of my image.

It depends what the minimum margins are on your printer and how you
have it set up.
 
My old Epson Stylus 900 always set one margin wider than the others and I
couldn't figure out how to make it narrower. I'm much happier now that I
have a canon i960. Borderless 4x6, 5x7, 8.5x11, and a full 8x10 close to
being centered on letter paper. Since you are using PS CS 8, I assume that
you know how to crop to a specific size final print and are not letting the
printer software determine how to size the printed image when centering it
on letter size paper.
 
It sort of depends on your Printer.

Remember the "Printable Area" will have a larger margin at the bottom than
the top, and if you are printing a horizontal, that means a larger margin at
one side.

To get a Print centered on the Paper you need to select "Centred" in the
printer Driver as well as in PS Print Dialogue. Doing this seems to reduce
the "Printable Area", so a print which would have been Ok in the Standard
settings might now be too big, hence the cropping.

If your Printer is capable of Printing without margins, then select "No
Margins" in the Printer Driver. Or, if not, you will have to reduce the
Print size slightly.

That "No Margins" setting is very handy, because, in PS "Print with Preview"
you can drag the Print into any position on the paper you
want, provided you have not selected "Centre"

I find the combination of these settings most useful when I want a
horizontal "Letter Box" type printed onto a standard sheet of paper, with
the Top margin and the two Side margins all equal, and it means I can get a
significantly wider print.
