I have a All-In-One from epson (CX 5200)
and I recently replaced the original cartridge ($30) with a G&G ($5)
and it works almost like the original.

Why is there such a difference in price? Does Epson not want to manufacture
cartridges? Or is it that it keeps the price so exorbitantly high
so that users are forced to use any ink and if the printer breaks down,
they can run away washing their hands off the printer...??

Any comments?

Thanks in advance,

No on the contrary, that's how they make their money.

Like most printer manufacturers these days they are working to a
business model which heavily subsidises the cost of the consuming item
(the printer) with the profit made on the consumable parts (paper and
ink). In short, the printer is cheap (probably sold at little more, if
not less, than its true cost) because they know they have you hooked on
buying their ink afterwards. If you bought the printer without
considering its operating costs then you only have yourself to blame.

Not just Epson--all the printer makers make big money on cartridges.
One way they do this is to market in such a way that the consumer
beleives that only the branded ink will work. The fact is that there
are many sources of 3rd party ink. based on my research, I would
start with:

inksupply (MIS)
mediastreet
Lyson
Atlex (mostly branded, but they also have some 3rd party--I think)
