Hi need some help please my father in-law got a C20 Epson last year from
Argos and when he installed it the instructions and Epson monitor appear in
Spanish,

Now i have been to his house and removed everything to do with the Epson
from the computer registry and other places and reinstalled it but still the
Epson monitor and help files are in Spanish, the disk has an English folder
on it and that's where i installed the drivers from

any advise please, he is not on the net, (to complicated for him so its not
worth it) and he is just over his 12 months guarantee so he cant take it
back and he has only just realized when he came to change his first lot of
ink that it was in Spanish

cheers Dave

Download the latest drivers from Epson, uninstall the old drivers
(and do a registry clean if you have the software, it fixes broken
damaged references in the registry) then try reinstalling from
the download. You might try uninstalling the original s/w in
safe mode, sometimes a system starts and puts files in an open,
in use state, this locks them, and you can't uninstall the from
the locked state. Even with a good uninstaller I sometimes get
"unable to remove {filename) - file locked or in use".
I just uninstall in safe mode, or if necessary from a DOS boot, from
a DOS boot disk. Worst case, not for the nervous, hack the
registry to get rid of all references to Epson, but back up
the system first. Of course there is the useless Epson help line
if youv'e got time and money to waste, but it's worth a try.

I would take it back to Argos. They are usually good at replacing items. Of
course there is no guarantee that the next one will be in English!

I'm not familiar with the C20. That may be because it is a UK or
European model.

You may wish to go to the Epson UK website and download current drivers
appropriate to the OS your father -in-law is using, in English, and try
them. There may be an error on the disk, but I think it would be fixed
on the currently posted drivers on the Epson UK site.

One other thought, the Epson eeprom holds it's market, at location
02H, initial default 00H world (1-Japan, 2-4 custom) . It also has a
one use location, default 0, and initialised any other
value. Once the printer has been installed (for it's national setting)
you may need an Epson utility to change it. I'd try the grotty
Epson help line.

Here's a thought: If you're using Win XP check Control Panel>Regional and
Language Options>Advanced and see what "Language for non-Unicode Programs"
is set to. Many proggys will display the language that is set in that box.
