Epson ejects clean paper

I just bought a second hand EPSON Stylus COLOR 3000 printer. Kind of old
thing, but prints up to A2 and banners nicely.
I have this problem, that it now and then just ejects a sheet of paper
without printing anything, and then stops. I suppose, there must be a
photocell or something, that "feels" when the paper is loaded. And that this
"feeler" is dirty or something.
Does anybody know anything about this? I want to repair it myself, but it
was nice to know something about it first.

My photo 1280 does the same thing every now and then. It seems to me that
the driver sometimes creates an image that is slightly too big for one sheet
(usually when I am trying to print borderless).
As problems go, this seems rather harmless, so I just put the paper back
into the supply bin.

Yes. I've seen the same problem on a Canon and on several HP printers.
just ignore and refeed the paper.

Ok. Thank you.
I also have seen this, but my problem is different.
Sometimes, when i try to print something, the printer just takes a piece of
paper, rolls it all the way through without stopping, and flashes "out of
paper", also when there is plenty of paper left. If i press the "reset"
button it starts again, sometimes it prints, sometimes it just repeats the
taking paper and rejecting it without printing.
The same thing often happen, if i print, maybe 10 pages. The printer might
print 5 pages, eject one page without print, and flash "out of paper"
I do not think, this is a driver problem. I think it is a printer problem.
As i see it, the printer takes the paper up as it is supposed to. But it can
not "feel" when the paper is loaded, that is, when the paper is in the right
position to start the printing. Therefore it just carries on loading for a
certain time, and then "thinks" there was no paper. It stops and flashes "no
paper".
What i want to know is, which type of "feeler" it can be, where i can find
it, and if it can be fixed.

don't know by sure, but i think it's a regular microswitch behind the paper
roller.

What sort of printer and what sort of paper?

"I just bought a second hand EPSON Stylus COLOR 3000 printer. Kind of old

Normal sheets of paper, A4 or A3, normal weight.

You are probably right then. It sounds like a sensor problem. However,
fixing it is unlikely. Most printers are just not worth repairing
unless they cost a lot of money. And it's unlikely you'll be able to
do the repair yourself.

The problem is not due to a defective or malfunctioning sensor. The
paper load rollers are either worn or dirty.

OK, thank you, all of you.
next week i will try to clean my printer inside.
I see a small microswich in the right side, underneath the roller, where the
paper first comes in the printer. This one might cause the problem. i will
try this one out, and clean it too, maybe replace it.

About the worth of repairing the printer ony this:
A printer, that prints A2 and banners up to 43 cm wide and several meters
long, is tractorfeeded, paperrollfeeded,papersheet-trayfeeded and handfeeded
up to 0,5 mm thicknes of paper is not exactly the cheapest printer arround.
Not even second hand. This is a professional machine.

Although you could be right, it is not necessarily so with the 3000.

Be sure the two pick up paper rollers on the front area are clean and
pick up the paper fully and accurately. If it is not that, then
consider sensors.

I own a 3000 with bad sensors and it does something similar. It started
to be intermittent, and then it became permanent. The only thing to do,
other than having the little sensor board replaced (it's part of the
head unit, but is a separate part) is to press the pause button after it
lights and then usually the printing process with start of the printer
didn't eject the page.

I should mention that the 3000 has a number of unique sensors both
optical and mechanical which measure paper width, amount of paper in the
front area, etc.

Epson uses the phrase "paper load rollers" what you call "pick up
paper rollers".
