Hey sll. Just got this machine new and put ink in and all fine. Apart from
the fact that it just doesn't print! Not even a test page. Well, it did
manage to print the windows logo. It also managed to print the number 7 on
the head realignment thingy, so I suggest that must be the culprit but I can
not work out what to do. The instructions talk about bands and boxes but I'm
getting none of that. The machines all updated so I'm at a bit of a loss.

Can anyone help a poor n00b?

Thanks all

Does the printer have an internal test page (using the control panle on the
printer itself)? If so, does that print OK?
When you installed the printer did you install the software first and only
connected the data cable when the installer asked you to? If you connected the
cable before installing the software it is entirely possible that your
installation is corrupted. You would in that case need to uninstall and
reinstall the printer with the cable not attached until the software asks you
to attach it.

No, it only printed the windows logo. And it only did that once.

Yes, this is what I did.

I just did a full head realignment test and the horizontal and vertical
things did nothing but the colour one actually worked! It printed out 7
perfect blue tests! So what on earth is going on then?

Yes, this is what I did.

For clarification
At the printer-
1.Turn off the Epson Stylus DX4400 Series and your computer, if connected.
2.Disconnect any connected USB cables at the printer..
3.Load plain paper in the sheet feeder.
4.Hold down the Stop button as you press the On button to turn the Epson
Stylus CX4400 Series back on. Hold down both buttons until the On light begins
to flash, then release the buttons.
5.The Epson Stylus CX4400 Series should begin printing the nozzle check pattern.
6. If the page prints can you copy OK with the printer, using the copy buttons.

If the page doesn't print or you can't copy, the printer has an electronic
problem. Are there any lights on or flashing?

If the page prints and you can copy you have a problem with the computer USB
port, or the USB cable or maybe the printer USB connector. More likely than
that is an installation issue (driver corruption) so I would uninstall the
printer using the Epson provided uninstall utility. Disconnect the USB cable.
Open the Printers and Faxes folder in the PC control panel, makes sure the
printer is gone. Click on File, Server Properties, Drivers. If any driver there
mentions your printer then select the driver and click Remove.
Now reboot the PC, reinstall the printer and connect the USB cable when asked
to.
