A friend of mine has an Epson CX5400 that just stopped printing. I took a
look at it and found that the purge tube popped off the head cleaning unit.
Is there supposed to be a clamp there? What would be the best way to be sure
it doesn't come off again?

Clean it real good and put a drop of silicon glue on it. I know some
techs who put a twist of wire around it, but it's real hard since there
isn't much room to work.

Thanks. I used hemostats to reattach the tube and wrap some wire around it.
I pulled the whole printer out of the case and did it from the bottom. Works
great. So are the color copies usually a little dark and greenish on these?

This is a reported problem on some C and CX Epson printers. It occurs
most commonly during a cartridge replacement. To my knowledge there is
not clamp provided to avoid this. I do not know if Epson had
retrofitted anything to prevent it. However, I suggest your friend
contact Epson.

They are aware of this problem (and if they deny it, you can tell them
they aren't being honest, because Epson has acknowledged this to their
service depots), but I don't know what, if anything, Epson is suggesting
as a fix. I imagine some plastic glue just at the tip of the purge tube
connection to the nipple it connects to, as long as it doesn't get into
the tube and clog it, should help to keep it in place.
