Having replaced the ink cartridges of my Epson 760 with new ones the ink
counter still shows the cartridges as being half full. Any suggestions how
to rectify this please ?

Cartridges?

Does that mean you replaced both the color and black at the same time?

If both cartridges are full then try resetting the full counter by pushing
the paper infeed button for 3 seconds to move the head to cartridge changing
position. Lift the cartridge clamp up on each cartridge and bring it down
again into lock position. Push the paper infeed button again and the printer
will go through a priming cycle. Check your ink levels again.

If this doesn't work try a general EPROM reset.
To perform a Master EPROM Reset:

1. Turn the printer off.
2. Disconnect the cable that connects from the computer to the printer.
3. With the printer turned off, hold down both the Paper and the Cleaning
Buttons at the same time.
4. Continue to hold the buttons and turn the printer on.
5. When the Paper Light begins to flash, release both the Paper and
Cleaning Buttons.
6. Immediately press the Paper Button once (All the lights will flash and
the printer will begin to charge).
7. When the Power light becomes steady, print.

Re no. 7: after insering paper but before reconnecting
printer to PC, right?

6b Reconnect the printer.

Well I would certainly imagine one should reconnect the printer first before
printing
