A PS to my earlier post.

If I need to change the print head is there any comment on the practicality
of doing this , I have a reasonable aptitude in general electronic repairs.

Thanks for any help
Vic

Epson printers have costly heads, and they need to be adjusted once
installed for nozzle voltages using a special program, which normally is
not available to the general public. I have occasionally seen programs
for the older models around, but not the C82. This may mean the heads
can only be replaced by a service depot.

Thanks Arthur ... for the bad news !!! :-)
Do you think it is a blockage or a drive fault seeing as the ink level does
not change ?

Just how much $ do you you think a C80 print head will cost?

Extend that thought and think what a new C84 or C86 will cost and you may wish to re-think your idea.

Thank you Jan.
I am a retired electronic engineer living in the UK so I have to think
frugally. I also like to repair things. :-)
I get your point. The cost could be enormous, and it my not work. That
would offend my ego!!
There is the possibility of picking one up for scrap to play about with.
Will have to give these options some thought. Thanks again Vic

Hi Vic,

I believe I may have missed your earlier posting(s) where you explained
the problem (or it was using a different subject thread)...

If you can reiterate the problem, I can probably help you to identify
the cause.

In general, if your printer is not printing any ink, or is missing one
color, make sure that you are testing it using the printer utilities and
printing a nozzle test, or doing a test using self test modes with the
printer disconnected from the computer using front panel switches. This
will eliminate most driver or printer to computer connection problems as
the cause.

Possible causes of no ink delivery include:

- the head is clogged
- the underhead is covered in dry ink
- there is an air lock in the head not allowing ink to pass through
the ink nipple (which punctured the cartridge is clogged or damaged)
- the cartridge is empty, dried out, or has air bubbles within it
- if the cartridge is the type that has a seal to be removed before use,
it has not been removed at all or completely
- if the cartridge has an air vent, the vent has clogged
- the cleaning station is not sealing allowing a vacuum to develop to
purge the head (this can be a problem when changing cartridges or
installing a new one)

All of these lead to ink not coming out of the head even if the head may
be fully functional.

The easiest way to determine if the head has ink flowing through it, is
to clean the cleaning station using an eye dropper and some ammoniated
window cleaner, and then run a few cleaning cycles. If the cleaning
station shows new ink in it (of the color that is not printing) after
cleaning cycles, then you know ink is getting through the head. If the
cleaning station is not functioning correctly or isn't sealing around
the head, this test may not work.

The other thing that can be attempted, is to place a damp paper towel
under the head and see if ink of the color in question is flowing onto
the towel.

If, after proving ink flowing through the head, the printer then still
doesn't leave any ink of the color(s) you are concerned about when
printing or nozzle check is attempted, then chances are good either the
head has failed, or the connection ribbon cable to the printer head is
not working or connected.

If you can give me more specifics, I may be able to help you to narrow
down the nature of the problem and offer some possible resolutions.
