Epson C20...Maintenance call

I don't use my C20 very often, and yesterday replaced both cartridges. Now,
when switching on, both red and green lights are flashing alternately and
the Status monitor is showing a 'Maintenance call'....saying "Parts inside
your printer require maintenance or replacement. Contact your dealer..."
I did a search and found an old post explaining that Epson program each
printer to show this message after 'x' number of head-cleaning cycles.
Apparently there are reset codes available to unlock the printer, but where
will I find this code?
I really don't want to send the printer to be fixed, it'll probably be
cheaper to buy new. If anybody can advise, or furnish me with any codes I'd
be very grateful ! It's worth a try!

Many thanks

Chris

Chris, try this free Epson resetting utility (SSCServe):
http://www.listsoft.com/13300/
You might also want to try the following method (works for the 1270,
maybe others):
Turn the power off. Press and hold the Load/Eject and Cleaning
buttons while you turn on the power. Release both buttons when the
Paper Out LED is flashing. Press and hold the Cleaning button for at
least 10 seconds.
The resetting utility SSCServe may also be useful to reset chipped
cartridges, but I've been unable to get the program to work properly
on an XP machine with a 1270.

Phil,

Thanks very much for your reply. I found the SSC Service Utility via a link
on www.fixyourownprinter.com late last night. Installed the program, and it
worked like a dream ! Printer is now back up and running like new.
Many thanks again.

And another thank you, from me!
My C20 just belly-upped today, but the SSCServe utility fixed it.
I don't think there is a 'button method' for this one, unlike the old 640
which was my previous failure from the same cause.

Do you know, does installing this utility disable the normal Epson
supplied print head cleaning utility? I have a CX5200.

Sincerely,
Bruce

SSCServe does not appear to affect the normal Epson utilities with my C20.
SSCServe does, however, appear to offer additional cleaning options, e.g.
just cleaning black instead of both black and colour.
