I have seen the Epson ActionScanner II on a list of
hardware compatible with Windows XP; however, I cannot
get it to be recognized. It uses a bi-directional
parallel interface. It worked fine with Windows 98SE. I
am using the latest Twain Driver from the Epson support
site (ver 2.70). Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If you are connecting it to the LPT port, ensure you are not piggy-backing
devices, XP does not support this.

If it's still not recognized, ensure the LPT is set to EPP in the BIOS.

Thanks for the info. The scanner is the only parallel
device connected; LTP is set to EPP and the port driver has
been removed and reinstalled. Still the same problem.
Any more ideaa?

Yes, this device is supported inbox for XP albeit it is an old driver.
Because parallel is not PnP, you have to install this device manually. (From
what I've read below, I do not know if you've done this or not.)

If you want to use the inbox WIA scanner driver that came with XP, I
recommend you:
1. disconnect the device from the computer
2. reboot your computer and then make sure any Epson programs are not
running when you start-up (check Task Manager)
2. uninstall any software that applied to the Epson scanner
3. reboot
4. once you've logged in, plug in the scanner.
5. then from the Hardware Manager, install the scanner manually (much like
you would manually install a parallel printer or old network card, etc.)

good luck!
