Epson 880 - Making nasty noises

Have you tried lubricating the silver guide bar with a silicone lubricant?
That won't fix the color problem but after lubricating try running a
cleaning cycle or two and see what happens.

I have an epson 880 which has performed well, up to now.

It's started making nasty noises a couple of weeks ago which seem to
be coming from the area where the cartridges park. It made the noise
when I first turned it on. Now it has stopped printing blue and
yellow.
I went through a couple of cleaning cycles and it only got worse.
Any ideas on what to do. Is there any type of fixing posible with
this machine or is it ready for the trash heap?

Is it possible there may be a piece of paper or debris located in the
parking area? Inspect area carefully after holding the paper infeed button
for about 5 sec, which will move the printhead to the far left. Because the
blue and yellow stopped printing you may also be out of ink in those
cartridge areas.
It certainly may mean its about ready for a fix, but consider getting it
repaired if you haven't had it for more than a couple of years. The 880 does
not use chipped cartridges. Third party inks can be had for less than half
the cost of an Epson replacement.

I discovered that the ink tube had come loose and was jambed in the
park area. That will explain the noise. I'm going to try to take it
apart and replace the tube. Wish me luck.
In the meantime Santa brought me a new Canon i860.
If I can't fix the Epson it will end up in the canon box in the trash.
