Epson 830 U query

I have ordered one of these but I believe they may be becoming obsolete,
Questions:

1. What Epson printer would be a suitable substitute and print photos just
as good or better?

2. Do current Epson printers (and the 830U) still have the 'pizza wheel'
problem (whereby the little toothed metal paper feed wheels roll over the
printed photo and leave a trail of small indentations)?

3. Who produces the best refill inks?
 
I second the question.

Besides, I would like to hear how C84 compares to this one in real life. I'm
planning to use any of theese printers for all-round work, but value
quality. It would be used for text, ocasional presentations, CD covers maybe
even some photos. What are the opinions?
