Epson 820 Photo Stylus ink question, running out.

Hi,
I've just realized that everytime I need to replace my black ink I also
need to replace the colour cartridge at the same time. Also the ink
monitor ALWAYS showes them both at the same level. This seems odd to me,
I know that I use more black then colour. Is it correct that they are
always at the same level?

This does not sound right. Are you saying that the printer forces you
to replace both cartridges?

One revelation I ran into was that the color monitor shows the same
level for all colors. I guess this makes sense since you do not want
to have any chamber go dry. But it conceals the fact that you are
wasting ink

On my printers (phot 900 and 1280, black and color always run out at
different times and can be replaced independently.

You may want to look into refilling---there are now MANY sources of
good 3rd party ink.
