Epson 760 Problem

I was just finished succesfully printing mailing labels on my old 760 and
noticed that all of the lights suddenly began blinking. The manual says that
this indicates that there is "an internal error" and that it needs service.
Short of looking for a new printer, is there anything I can try to rectify this
problem? I've tried the usual routine of shutting down the computer,
re-starting, etc. but pressing the ON/OFF button doesn't respond. Any
suggestions?

Hi Dave,

Many thanks for the site referral! I downloaded the SSC Service Utility 4.00 and
entered my model in "Configuration", but the rest is Greek to me! None of the
three selections under "Configuration" are checked. Under "Resetter>Available
data for selected model", the only option is "none". Under "Options", I have
"Auto". The other options are grey-ed out. If I select "Test", it asks if I
removed the chip. I thought the chip was in the cartridge! The 760 has one black
cartridge and one color cartridge. My "painful" experience some years ago is
that if I once remove a cartridge (other than to replace an empty one!), the
older cartridge, no matter how much ink is left, cannot be used again. Please
advise!

You are looking at the chip resetter for the cartridges, you need to look at
the "protection counter" reset.
When you open the utility, simply close it and then right click on the tray
icon, select protection counter and go from there.

Tony,

I may have more of a problem, then, since when I select "Protection Counter" and
see the three choices, the first gives me a "Communication error" window, the
"Reser protection counter" also gives me a "Communication error", while the
third "Clear counter overflow" does apparently nothing!

All lights are still flashing. All cable connections are verified.

Please email me with the exact description of which lights are blinking,
which color, and the frequency of the blinks (every second, every 5
seconds, etc) if they blink in unison or opposite of others, etc.

Email me at:

e-printerhelp(at)mvps(dot)org

(at) = @
(dot) = .

and I will try to help you. It is likely a repairable situation, and
fairly easily.
