Epson 4990 and LaserFast

I've just installed SE V6.4.2r1c for the Epson 4990. The 48
bit colour option is "grayed out" and only 48 bit HDR is
available for scanning in 48 bit. Negative files scanned in
HDR are negative images, complete with mask.

How can I do one of the following: activate scanning in 48
bit colour, or convert the HDR scan to a positive image,
removing the mask?

The SE version is "limited" and only outputs at 24 bit color except for the
HDR (raw-like mode). You have to upgrade to AI to get 48bit output in other
modes.
