epson 4800 black ink swap

To avoid consuming colored ink during a glossy to matte black ink swap,
might it work to simply exchange cartridges and flush the glossy ink by
printing several pages of solid black?

Will the printer allow for this? I suspect the firmware is designed to
go into a major purge cycle when the black ink type is changed.

Epson has smartened up with the 3800... it allows for both types of
black ink to be installed at once.
